December 1 - World AIDS Day

"World AIDS Day" was first proclaimed on December 1, 1988 by the World Health Organization after a meeting of health ministers of all countries called for social tolerance and expansion exchange of information on HIV/AIDS. It is celebrated every year on December 1. The World Day serves to strengthen the organized efforts to combat the pandemic of HIV infection and AIDS, which is spreading in all regions of the world. Organized efforts are aimed at strengthening public support for HIV/AIDS prevention programs, organizing training and providing information on all aspects of HIV/AIDS.

Символом боротьби зі СНІДом є червона стрічка, жодна акція у цій області не обходиться зараз без her This tape was conceived as a symbol of AIDS awareness in the spring of 1991. Its idea belongs to the artist Frank Moore.

The Red Ribbon Project was officially launched at the 45th Annual Tony Awards on June 2, 2000. All nominees and participants were offered (and quite successfully)   such tapes. According to the press release announcing the "Red Ribbon" project: "The red ribbon (inverted "V") will become a symbol of our sympathy, support and hope for a future without AIDS. The biggest hope associated with this project is that on December 1, World AIDS Day, these ribbons will be worn around the world."
